I have been absolutely amazed by how blatantly Obama and his campaign have controlled "truth" by making obviously false statements, but making them over and over again. I don't know if they will be successful at this, but their response to criticism throughout this campaign has been to revise their position and then drive that revision home by rote repetition. Whenever they are caught by some revealing statement, they simply revise it and move forward.
A few examples:
1) Obama stated that he wants to "spread the wealth around". In recent speeches, he has revised this to "spread opportunity around".
2) Biden recently stated that Obama will be specifically tested by world leaders. Obama calls this a "rhetorical flourish", and then revises the statement to "his core point was that the next administration is going to be tested, regardless of who it is".
3) Though no evidence is given to support the claim, the repeated mantra of "8 years of failed economic policy" has been taken as truth, despite the fact that the economy was not in crisis until after Democrats took control of congress.
4) Obama claims over and over that 95% of Americans will receive a tax cut. 40% of Americans don't pay taxes. What he's really talking about is a tax credit. There's a very real difference between the two. But Obama will continue to call it a tax cut because that's the truth he wants to impose.
5) In a recent speech, Biden states several times that McCain has NEVER voted against a Bush policy. Moments after making this assertion, he states that McCain voted for 3 out of 4 of Bush's budgets, and that he has voted 90% of the time in favor of Bush policies. Whether or not that's true, it's certainly not the 100% that Biden claimed over and over. In fact, it's less than most Republicans, a fact that runs contrary to their argument.
6) It is stated over and over that we have failed in Iraq, despite the clear evidence that we have achieved our goals in Iraq.
I could go on, but you get the picture.
The strategy of Obama's campaign is not to dispute the facts, but simply to change them. And with the support of the majority of media sources, it's working quite well. If and when Obama is elected President, and Democrats control both houses of Congress, and liberals control the majority of media, don't expect to have even the slightest clue what's happening behind the curtain of our government. It seems that many Americans have unconditional trust in this man. They're going to need it. Because if he's elected, we, as Americans, are handing unconditional control of our lives to these people. God help us.
